I (Yannick, XV4Y) am now gone from Viet-Nam and all my radio operations have stopped after March 1st.
My online log is available on QScope.org (https://qscope NULL.org/public/logs/search_results?usr_login=xv4y&contest_name=xv4y). I hope we will meet again soon once I finished relocating to a new place.
Keith G4FUF is XV4F operating XV4Y’s station in Cần Thơ. He will try to focus on 6 meters enjoying the sub-tropical DX automnal conditions.
XV4Y will be the HQ station for the VARC during the 2013 IARU HF Championship this week-end.
Entry will be as Single Operator Low Power station.
Mode will be mainly CW, and bands 20 meters, 15 meters and 40 meters.
Here a picture of Malcolm VK6LC when he visited Eddy XV1X’s house where he operated as XV1LC. Conditions have not been that great however and not as much QSOs as expect have been logged. Malcolm we also be in Can Tho for a short time around November 16th and he may operate as XV4LC using XV4Y club station.
During next week-end you should expect at least two stations from Viet-Nam active during the SSB CQ WPX contest. XV2RZ should continue with its contesting tradition as it warmed up during last week-end Russian DX Contest. XV4Y will have limited spare time but will try to give points to as many friends as possible.
This week-end (september 3rd and 4th) will take place the All Asian DX Contest. You could expect stations from all over Asia and Oceania to enjoy the contest. Vietnam will not be outside the competition and at least XV4Y will be active during the evenings (1300z-1600z).
Next week-end will see participants from all over the world run in the AA DX Contest organized by JARL. You can expect stations from Vietnam to be active like last years.
As always, XV1X should be the major station. Also listen to XV4Y on 10m and 80m as he may have some spare time for a few QSOs.
For a short stay and casual HAM Radio operation in Viet-Nam, the best way is to rent a shack and use the station’s callsign.
An agreement from both the VARC and the shack owner is necessary of course, but this reduce the delay needed to obtain the authorization to operate.
From now, 5 shacks are available : 2 in Hồ Chí Minh City and 1 near Củ Chi, 1 in Vũng Tàu (on the sea front) and 1 in Cần Thơ.
These last weeks many stations have been active from Viet-Nam. You could expect a strong participation to this week-end SSB contest.
XV4Y is known to be QRV for CQ WPX Contest but only with reduced time. The strongest effort should be expected from XV1X as usual. Also look for 3W3B, XV2LC, XV2W…
Good luck in the contest!
